The reconfigured entrance to Cory’s Lane
In scanning the daily news articles, a thought often comes to mind: which came first, the story or the headline? In this ‘current’ case, it became clear that our number one story this week should be, “Making an Entrance: The New Cory’s Lane.” Well there was our lead-in, and so now for the story to go with it.
While mulling over the idea of “making an entrance,” the Venice Film Festival (the one in Italy), was prominent in the entertainment news, with coverage and reviews of the films being premiered there on about the same day we agreed on our article’s theme. Garnering as much press as the films themselves was the attention paid to the actors and other celebrities “making an entrance” on the red carpet. As our lead-in suggests, a different kind of entrance, one much closer to home, was made, or re-made, this summer in Portsmouth. Oblates, students, delivery folks, and visitors returning to campus after having been away for a while may have thought they were turning into the wrong road instead of Cory’s Lane.
