Dom Charles Thomas Liggett was born on February the 14th, 1918, the son of Clyde and Florence Reed Liggett of Pennsylvania. After being graduated from Alleghany College, he entered the General Theological Seminary and having completed his studies there, was ordained in the Episcopal Church.
After some years in the ministry, he was received into the Catholic Church and soon afterwards entered Portsmouth Priory as a Postulant. He took his solemn vows in 1954 and was ordained in 1956.
Father Thomas was for many years the monastic guestmaster while teaching both in the school and in the monastery. As a teacher he was respected and noted for the high standards which he set himself in his work.
In 1979 the first signs of cancer were detected. He bore his suffering for two years with cheerfulness and without complaint. During the last week his life he was in the Rose Hawthorne Home for Cancer Patients and received devoted care from the Dominican Sisters. He died peacefully on October 4th, 1981 and was mourned by the many people to whom he had been a good friend and priest.
