The Oblates

The Oblates are an Extension of our Community

The Oblates of Portsmouth Abbey are Christian men and women who live in the secular world in accord with the Rule of St. Benedict.  Their spiritual lives are modeled after our monks in rhythms of silence and speech, solitude and hospitality, contemplative prayer and liturgy.

Time for reflection and renewal

Six times a year the Oblates gather at the Abbey for a day of recollection.  It begins with a Conventual Mass followed by breakfast and then a conference and period of private prayer.  After lunch, the Oblates have more time for prayer, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the sacrament of reconciliation. Retreats are held periodically as well.
