About the Abbey | Portsmouth Abbey

The monastery was founded in 1918 by Dom Leonard Sargent, an American of Downside Abbey in England.

Our mission is reverence for God and the human person; respect for learning and order; and shared responsibility for community life.

Designed by noted modern architect Pietro Belluschi, the church is the heart of the campus.
